My name is Ollie and I’m about to become a dad and with this humble blog I hope to be able to document the process complete with the successes, the failures, the agonising decisions and the overwhelming joys. My wife, Amy, and I moved to New York from London in August last year. Amy spent her formative years in the concrete jungle whilst I grew up in the rolling hills and decaying factories of northern England. I’ve entered New York’s burgeoning health technology scene whilst Amy’s busy general managing small theatre projects and trying to find the next Hamilton. New country, new job and now parenthood – it’s been a dizzying few months but when you go in, you might as well go all in. Our little bundle of joy will be arriving in mid May and we’re excited, thrilled and terrified all at the same time.
Casting my eye over the blogosphere whilst there’s an overwhelming amount of information out there for new parents but nothing I read really spoke to me so I thought I’d add to the noise with my own sardonic commentary (I’m British so it’s charming). I hope that for some other expectant or new parents out there I can provide some sense of solace or understanding in the tough decisions as well as sharing all the amazing moments. Who am I kidding?! It’s all about me wanting to get the ideas out of my head and down on to paper (screen). If realising you’re going to become responsible for another person isn’t keeping you up at night then I suppose the crying soon will. Perhaps the nightly anxiety felt by expectant parents is really just preparation for when the baby gets here.
I hope you enjoy reading and if you’d like to get in touch to ask me a question then head on over to the contact form and I’ll do my best to get back to you in a reasonable time frame!
